Walter Stoehr: Apologies for the delay, I'm working on getting a proper solution. It appears to be material related issue that's fairly common in Blender.
Could you try mixing the shader with a transparent node. Factor should be a Lightpath node's [Is Shadow Ray] output.
This is also a common trick to optimize glass by making light ignore it entirely. [I've attached a picture of a simple node setup]

Another solution would be to set the Transmission to 1 and play with the IOR. The more realistic way, but that can be a bit tricky to get perfect and can add a lot to render time.
